When you’re feeling like things aren’t going your way, affirmations for artists will help you get yourself back to a place of peace.
Whether you’re brand new to the world of creativity or you’ve been an established artist for decades, there are sure to be days when things feel off. You question yourself, your worth, and why you even started doing this whole artist thing in the first place.
That’s where affirmations come in. Do they feel cheesy at first? Kind of. Do they work if you find the right one? Absolutely.
How to Use Affirmations
Affirmations only work when you use them, but you’ll only use them if they sound plausible and realistic, maybe with a touch of magic thrown in for good measure.
That’s why it’s very important to pick an affirmation that makes you feel good, but that you also believe. Once you find that beautiful combo that soothes your soul but also lifts you up? Then repeat it to yourself every day. Write it in the steam in the bathroom. Use it as the background of your phone. Whenever you find yourself telling the lie that makes you feel the worst, remember your affirmation.
Some of my personal favorites are “I’m doing a good job” and “be easy about it,” which reminds me not to take things so seriously. The affirmations below are specifically for artists, though. Of course, any affirmation that makes you feel better is great, but these are designed exactly for people working in the creative field.
Affirmations for Artists
#1 My work is getting better and better
Why this works: Artists tend to get all caught up worrying that they’re not good enough. (Okay, we all do that, no matter our field of study.) This affirmation will remind artists that they’re improving and help soothe those negative voices in your head.
#2 It’s safe for me to share my work
Why this works: Creatives usually love and cherish their work like other people cherish their children. (Okay, not quite like that, but you get it.) It can be incredibly hard to share your work with the world, because then people can criticize it, laugh at it, or otherwise reject it. This mantra won’t make everyone be kind, but it will remind you that it’s okay to let your work out into the world.
#3 I will let things unfold
Why this works: It’s so very easy to try to control every little thing all the darn time. And it’s also easy to slip into the habit of hustling, pushing, and never resting. We all need to time to relax, and when we let things unfold over time, we can let the Universe do a little magic and let ourselves be surprised and delighted along the way.
#4 There is plenty of room for me and my work
Why this works: Phew, have you looked at Instagram lately? It’s so easy for your mind to get caught in a web of lies about why your work sucks and the market is saturated and blah blah blah. Listen, you have a unique voice and perspective, and there’s room for you both!
#5 I’m allowed to earn money from my art
Why this works: I saved the big one for last! Artists are fed a bunch of lies and stories about their work not being valuable from the very beginning. Unless you saw someone in your own life make it as a creative, you probably have a lot of junk to unpack about artists and money. That’s too much to cover in this blog post, but start saying this affirmation to yourself to get on the right path.
And there you have it! Positive affirmations for artists and creatives. But remember, they only work if you say them!
