Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned creative, you need to be brave and show your art!
Why It’s Hard to Show Your Art
When you make art, you likely feel like you’re putting your whole heart and soul onto the canvas (or paper or wood or metal). When you put that much of yourself into something, it’s scary to show it to the world. It’s scary to show it to people who love you, too, because what if they reject it, and therefore you?
I’m here to tell you the truth: Your art is not you. It’s just not. It feels like it’s you, because it came from you and through you, but it’s just one step in your life, one step in your journey.
I’ve felt incredibly scared to be an artist and put my art out there time and time again. But I keep doing it because my soul will not let me stop. I need to paint. I need to allow peace. I need to spread joy.
You are not your art. Create and then let it go. Let it out into the world. If someone says something negative about it, it’s not you, it’s them. If there’s a kernel of truth in the comment, let it wash over you and create something with that new information next time.
Where to Show Your Art
Wherever you want! Show it in a local coffee shop. Snap a pic and text it to a friend. Put it on Instagram (and while you’re there, follow me and tag me when you show your own art so I can see it!).
Just do it. Let it out. It’s not meant to stay hidden in your heart, it’s meant to see the light of the sun. You’ll get better and better at it, I promise!
