Get What You Want From Your Art
Here’s what feels like a straightforward question: What do you want to get from your art and art practice? I bet something about success or financial stability or recognition is what pops into your head, but the truth is that none of that is what you’re truly seeking.
What We All Really Want
When it comes down to it, humans all truly, deeply want just a few things, like peace, love, and freedom.
When you say you want to make money selling your paintings, what you’re really looking for is freedom. When you say you want recognition, what you want is the peace of knowing, deep down, that you’re good enough.
Instead of thinking of external rewards you’re hoping to get from making artwork, ask yourself, “what do I really want from my art?” If you’re still answering success or a legacy or financial abundance, keep asking questions. What would financial abundance give you? What would leaving a legacy mean to you?
Notice how striving for and grasping at something out of your control feels in your body. You can’t make someone like your art, buy your work, or accept your collection into a gallery. And even if you achieve any of those things, your mind will always want more. Always, always, always.
One of the best ways to feel true satisfaction is to become mindful of the moment and/or to tune into your intuition. Lucky for you, I’ve created a free guide on just that topic!
