How to Feel Better About Your Art (Or Anything!)

How to Feel Better About Your Art (Or Anything!)

Sometimes I struggle. I fall into a bit of a pit and don’t feel good about myself or my art or my business. I might feel sad, or disappointed, or envious. But something that’s really, really important to me is figuring out how to feel better. I never stop trying to live in the present moment and deal with my negative thoughts.

Luckily, there are plenty of books and podcasts out there to give me all sorts of instant refresher courses on how to feel better. One of my very favorite people to learn from is Martha Beck, whom I trained as a life coach under, and whose books line my shelves.

Recently she was talking about worry, which is absolutely one of my biggest struggles. I’d feel a lot better about everything in my life, especially my art business, if I could stop worrying! So, what’s a person to do? Shift around to some positive thoughts, namely positive what-ifs.

Feel Better Using Positive What-Ifs

Most of us have a zillion unencumbered and often critical thoughts running around our heads all day long. Many of those are what-ifs.

What if I don’t sell any art this month?

What if I’m never good enough?

What if no one appreciates anything I do?

What if I don’t have enough money?

The key here is to play a game with yourself – the positive what-ifs game! Instead of those awful thoughts, how about something to make you smile?

What if I sell more paintings this month than I ever have before?

What if someone famous sees my work and wants to buy it??

What if I win a gift certificate to buy hundreds of dollars in art supplies?

What if my creative business thrives more and more every year?

Don’t you already feel so much better?? You can see and hear me talk about this in even more depth in the video below!
