Someone DM’d the other week and asked me where I find artistic inspiration and how to stay creatively inspired, and the question caught me by surprise. I find inspiration almost everywhere, and sometimes have what feels like too many ideas, but I quickly realized that’s because I’ve cultivated a creative mindset.
In case you’re hoping to do the same thing, here are my top three tips:
- Make time for stillness, meditation, and/or nature walks. The creative spirit wants to flow through you, but you can’t hear it if your mind is chattering nonstop. You can read more about meditation and stillness here.
- Be open to finding inspiration EVERYWHERE. I remember seeing a painting on the TV show Shrinking and absolutely loving the color scheme so much that I immediately knew it would somehow be worked into a future painting. You can find inspiration in nature, fashion, home decor, architecture, and more. Yesterday my husband and I were out eating lunch (shoutout to the Asheville restaurants that are making it work without potable water!), and the unusual pattern and color scheme of the table top was inspiring to me! Look for it and you’ll find it.
- Make more stuff! Creativity begets creativity, and once you get into a regular practice you will have more creativity than you know what to do with! I truly believe this. Read more about creativity here.
